According to a ZDnet article posted yesterday AOL is expected to launch their Internet Phone service next month.

America Online is expected to launch an Internet phone service in the United States next month, leapfrogging rivals in a fast-growing market as it seeks to evolve from an also-ran provider of dial-up Internet access to a broadband services powerhouse.
It looks like VoWiFi is making inroads into mobility, this is great news for the IP communications industry.

We are starting to see some progress with a few proposed P2P VoIP drafts in the IETF. It will probably take several months but there will be a standard here and that is good news!
With Skype’s seemingly immense popularity the business case for P2P VoIP has been already been introduced, albeit nothing new. When we take that model and apply it using Open Standards like SIP [Session Initiation Protocol] the doors fling wide open.

This new deal with Lucent sends a clear signal that Xten is serious about IMS and mobile IP communications. This new initiative does include an eyeBeam release as well which is not clear in the press release put out by Lucent.
