Vancouver Facebook Developer Garage

Facebook, welcome to Vancouver! Vancouver Film School (VFS) has some great facilities, as you can all see, wish I could have been there. Sadly I missed out, my "2 yr old" is a bit sickly but I managed to catch it via miss604.com's blog – Rebecca Bolwitt does a great job of covering local happenings. if you are in the local tech community and have not added this RSS feed to your reader you are missing out.

If anything else, Facebook is driving development, more so I think than others that have walked this path before, Google comes to mind. This is feeling somewhat reminiscent of the pre-bubble and dot com bust nearly 10 years ago. The excitement has been revived, I just hope there is money at the end of that rainbow. If anything else Facebook applications can be a great marketing platform for the real money apps.

Ruby on Rails VoIP Plugin

We are making some great progress at Lypp these days. Last week we unveiled our new mobile app at Lypp.com (built on the Lypp VoIP API of course), today we released our Ruby on Rails VoIP Plugin. Here are some details taken from the Lypp Blog.

Ruby on Rails + = 🙂

Here is the very first Ruby on Rails Plugin for VoIP from Lypp, based on the Lypp VoIP API. If you know Ruby on Rails, you now know how to integrate VoIP.

Within an hour you should be able to create a voip widget and make your first call from your application, no joke. Email api AT lypp.com for a username and password.

Stay tuned for the VoIP Mashup Contest we will be announcing soon!

Web 2.0 Summit

Update: What a crazy show! Too many people that I wanted to talk to but just did not have the time to get to everyone. Now for the email frenzy.

—

Finally made it to the show, it's been a busy morning.

Sitting in the Presidio taking in "The Web App Revolution: Is This the End or Just the Beginning?"
Very cool discussion by some very bright guys around client software not lasting as long as poeple may think, I happen to agree although the offline world is still, well.. offline. 3G well help that along.

The Business of APIs – Conference

At the The Business of APIs Conference today, looking forward to a great day of conversation with like-minded people.

Update:
Just met with Oren Michels, Founder of Mashery. Great guy, truly understands the business of web services. I can see Lypp using Mashery's proxy API for reporting, authentication etc. There are some great case studies from Pikeo , Compete and RockYou.

Update:
I have just had a great conversation with Debbie Landa and Shay Nowick of Dealmaker Media. Shay asked a basic question, tell me what you do in one sentence, here it is…

"Lypp is the EC2 /S3 of VoIP."

Simply put, we are the pay as you go web services provider for VoiP. Partners access our service via the RESTful API. If you want to integrate VoIP into your application, Lypp is a great place to start and complete your journey. The average time is takes for developers to make their first real phone call using the Lypp API is now less than 2 hours, and that's no joke. Get yourself a username and password to access the Lypp API, just email api@lypp.com.

Update:
Just had a great conversation with Jeff Barr, Web Services Evangelist at Amazon. Sounds like some cool stuff is about to hit this eve, keep your ears to the rail.

Mobivox and SightSpeed

Andy points to a great little ditty from Mark MacLoed, CFO at Mobivox as he recounts the 6 months that it took for them to successfully raise $11M. Nice to see we are not the only ones going through this 😉
