We all know Callvantage has been going head to head with Vonage on broadband phone service. One has to wonder if this merger with SBC will hinder the Callvantage service offering. It could be a positive twist for Vonage, currently in a massive PR blitz.

Some 13,000 jobs would be cut in the planned merger of telecom giants SBC Communications and AT&T announced this week, according to documents presented to analysts Tuesday.

The SBC documents indicated a large chunk of cost savings from the proposed mega-merger would come from reducing staffing in sales, billing, network maintenance and administrative services.

The cuts would eliminate about six percent of the 210,000 people employed by the two firms.
